Board Meeting Minutes

October 13th, 2020

The regular monthly meeting of the Switzerland County Public Library Board of Trustees was held Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at 3:30 pm in the meeting room of the library. Attending were Debbie Margison, Bruce Williams, Mary Jane Rogers, Emily Fox, and Heather Peelman. Stacy Streett and Allan Bear attended via phone. Not attending was Sharon Deck.

Williams made a motion to approve the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by Margison and passed unanimously. Reports of library activity and technology activity were shared. Fox reported circulation increased slightly, but is still low. Over 330 cards were issued to students in September. Program attendance was steady, but Peelman plans to do limited in-person youth programming in October. Storytime has started again and is going well. The library kicked off their program series for the Indiana Humanities One State, One Story grant. Comfort Systems repaired a motor in the HVAC system in addition to the regular quarterly maintenance. AVC Technology has started maintaining the library’s computers and server.

Bills and claims were presented. Rogers made a motion to approve the claims, seconded by Margison and passed unanimously.

New Business

The 2021 budget was presented for adoption. Williams made a motion to adopt the budget, seconded by Rogers and passed unanimously.

Fox presented quotes from two companies for a new copier. The copiers had similar capabilities and functions. Discussion was held. Margison moved to buy a new copier and coin machine from the Office Shop, seconded by Rogers and passed unanimously.

Fox announced the library will be closed on Monday, November 9th for Veteran’s Day.

Fox and Peelman gave a report on the library’s annual book sale. The library earned almost $290 from the sale, which is nearly $50 more than last year. Fox reported that the library will likely not be accepting donations until after the first of the year because of COVID-related restrictions as well as having limited space.

With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
