Board Meeting Minutes
May 19th, 2022
The regular monthly meeting of the Switzerland County Public Library Board of Trustees was held Thursday, May 19th, 2022 at 3:30 pm in the meeting room of the library. Attending were Mary Jane Rogers, Sharon Deck, Diane Sigmon, Stacy Streett, Heather Peelman and Emily Fox. Not attending were Michelle Hicks, Diana Barry, and Debbie Margison.
Deck made a motion to approve the minutes of the previous board meeting, seconded by Rogers and passed unanimously. Reports of library activity and technology activity were shared. Circulation and program numbers as daylight hours are increasing. Summer reading events are scheduled and grant and donation money is coming in for both adult and children’s programs. The Library received a $2000 grant from the Vevay-Switzerland County Foundation for children’s programming, a $1250 grant from the Community Foundation for the adult program, and a $300 grant from the Women’s Giving Circle for the G.A.M.E. Club. The G.A.M.E. Club grant was unexpected, but the teens will benefit from new games and more snacks. Heather Peelman reported community donations are around $900 and Friendship State Bank donated tickets to the Newport Aquarium.
Bills and claims were presented. Sigmon made a motion to approve the claims, seconded by Deck and passed unanimously.

Old Business
K2M Design sent a finalized contract for the completion of the Outdoor Learning Lab project. In order to work with the Library’s budget, K2M is charging a $4000 for the plans for the lab and will charge for construction administration report hourly not to exceed $5000. Discussion was held. The consensus was to accept the proposal at the meeting due to time constraints and to hold a budget hearing at the June meeting to request an additional appropriation of $30,000 from the Rainy Day fund. Streett motioned to accept the contract from K2M, seconded by Sigmon and passed unanimously.
New Business
The Access to Public Records and Public Comment During Board Meeting policies were reviewed. No changes were suggested.
Fox requested the to close the library on Saturday, May 28th, due to an Evergreen Indiana outage, as well as being a holiday weekend and graduation weekend. She also requested to open the library at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 3rd so that staff could hold their annual summer reading training. The board agreed by consensus.
The Library will also be closed Monday, May 30th for Memorial Day.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
