Board Meeting Minutes
June 14th, 2022
The regular monthly meeting of the Switzerland County Public Library Board of Trustees was held Tuesday, June 14th, 2022 at 3:30 pm in the meeting room of the library. Attending were Mary Jane Rogers, Sharon Deck, Diane Sigmon, Stacy Streett, Michelle Hicks, Debbie Margison, Heather Peelman and Emily Fox. Not attending was Diana Barry.
Sigmon made a motion to approve the minutes of the previous board meeting, seconded by Rogers and passed unanimously. Reports of library activity and technology activity were shared. Circulation numbers are still not at 2019 levels but they are on par with 2021 levels. Summer reading is underway and going well. There is at least one program in the library almost every day of summer reading.
Bills and claims were presented. Deck made a motion to approve the claims, seconded by Margison and passed unanimously.

New Business
A resolution for additional appropriations to the Rainy Day fund was presented. The proposed amount was $35,000 for the purpose of the Outdoor Learning Lab. Rogers asked if we had received any estimates for the space and Fox said not yet. Fox explained that based on some of her own research, she did not think the full amount would be used. She then explained the next steps of the project. She said that the state library has extended their contract deadline from July 31st to September 30th and all federal funds need to be expended by then. Hicks motioned to approve the additional appropriations, seconded by Deck and passed unanimously.
Fox presented the Internet/Computer Use Policy with a minor change to address updated printing policies. Rogers motioned to accept, seconded by Sigmon and passed unanimously.
The Library Behavior Policy and Supervised Visitation Policy were reviewed without changes.
Fox presented an update to the Unattended Children Policy to clarify the caregiver of a child under the age of 10 needs to be at least 14 years of age or older. Hicks motioned to approve, seconded by Margison and passed unanimously.
Fox stated the Library will be holding an after-hours carnival for summer reading on July 8th. It will be a family event and run from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. The Library will close from 2 p.m.-6 p.m. that day in order to set up and give staff time for breaks. Almost all staff members will be participating.
Fox announced the Library will be closed Monday, July 4th for Independence Day. She also announced that the Library will have a float in the Patriot 4th of July parade on July 2nd in order to better outreach to that area of the county. She said if any board members would like to join, details would be sent out later but participants would meet at the Library between 8:30-9 a.m. the day of.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 3:55 p.m.
