Board Meeting Minutes

September 12, 2017

The regular monthly meeting and public hearing for the 2018 budget of the Switzerland County Public Library Board of Trustees was held Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 3:30 pm in the meeting room of the library. Attending were Allan Bear, Wanda Benzing, Denise Crawford, Sharon Deck, Diana Johnson, Mary Jane Rogers, Bruce Williams, and Shannon Phipps.

Rogers made a motion to approve the minutes of the August meeting, seconded by Crawford and passed. Reports of library activity and technology activity were shared. The printer used by the public computers quit working in late August and has been replaced with a color printer. Amber Garcia is working on getting the iPad Air tablets ready to replace the children’s computers. Computer and wireless use was up in August. Bank reconciliation statements and the receipt listing were reviewed.

Bills and claims were presented. Crawford made a motion to approve the claims, seconded by Johnson and passed.

Time for Public Comments

There was no one present to comment on the budget.

Old Business

The director reported that the eclipse viewing party was a success. We gave out 330 pairs of glasses and about 60 people stayed for the party. We could have given out at least 200 more if we had them.

Courtney Allison, regional consultant from the Indiana State Library visited on August 17th. Wendy Paige, our regional cataloging representative visited on August 25th and attended the Swiss Wine Festival.

New Business

A revised Internet and Computer Use Policy was introduced which will allow patrons to print in color for $.25 a page. Johnson made a motion to approve, seconded by Bear and passed.

The director and Amber Garcia will be attending the SCES and JCES after school programs once a month to present a program. Anna Goben and some of the members of the Evergreen Committee will be visiting on September 21st. On October 3rd, author Martha Conway will be here to discuss her book, “The Underground River”. Much of her research for the book was done at the Switzerland County Historical Society.

Phipps will be off September 29th and then October 4th-10th.

The next meeting will be October 17th at 3:30 pm and will be the adoption of the 2018 budget.

With no further business, Williams moved to adjourn the meeting at 4:00. Motion seconded by Deck and passed.
