October 2017 minutes

The regular monthly meeting and adoption for the 2018 budget of the Switzerland County Public Library Board of Trustees was held Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 3:30 pm in the meeting room of the library. Attending were Denise Crawford, Sharon Deck, Diana Johnson, Mary Jane Rogers, Bruce Williams, and Shannon Phipps.  Absent were Allan Bear and Wanda Benzing.

Crawford made a motion to approve the minutes of the September meeting, seconded by Johnson and passed. Reports of library activity and technology activity were shared. Two public computers were replaced today bringing the total to four Windows 10 and four Windows 7. We are planning to replace two more before the end of the year. Bank reconciliation statements and the receipt listing were reviewed.

Bills and claims were presented. Johnson made a motion to approve the claims, seconded by Deck and passed.

Time for Public Comments

There were none.

Old Business

The director updated the spreadsheet comparing Duke bills over the past 3 years. There was significant savings over the summer and overall there have been savings each month since installation of the LED lights.

New Business

The 2018 Budget was presented for adoption. Crawford made a motion to adopt the budget as advertised, seconded by Williams and passed.

The director asked for permission to accept food for fines as has been done in the past from October 18-November 30. Johnson made a motion to allow Food for Fines, seconded by Rogers and passed.

Staff in-service day will be held December 8th. Courtney Allison of the Indiana State Library will be presenting a “Technology Petting Zoo” and an overview of the Evergreen Indiana Web Client. Shannon will be reviewing policies and procedures with an emphasis on closing procedures as there have been a few issues with not serving patrons as well as we should at the end of the day.

Shannon reminded everyone that the Board will need to elect a new treasurer in 2018 because Diana Johnson will be finishing her service on the Board in early 2018.

The library will be closed on Saturday, November 11th for Veteran’s Day.

The next meeting will be November 14th at 3:30 pm and will be the adoption of the 2018 budget.

With no further business, Williams moved to adjourn the meeting at 4:10. Motion seconded by Deck and passed.
