May 2017 minutes
The regular monthly meeting of the Switzerland County Public Library Board of Trustees was held Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at 3:30 pm in the meeting room of the library. Attending were Allan Bear, Wanda Benzing, Denise Crawford, Sharon Deck, Diana Johnson, Mary Jane Rogers, Bruce Williams, and Shannon Phipps.
Johnson made a motion to approve the minutes of the April meeting, seconded by Deck and passed. Reports of library activity and technology activity were shared. We are in the process of setting up wireless printing. Bank reconciliation statements and the receipt listing were reviewed.
Bills and claims were presented. Benzing made a motion to approve the claims, seconded by Crawford and passed.

There were none.
Long range planning discussions continued, focusing on community needs. Trustees felt that reaching out to provide library services to people outside of Vevay was a need.
There has been no interest from FFA or the Master Gardener program in landscaping so Shannon and Shawnna Ramsey will continue to take care of the planters. Cincy Welch will cater the Anniversary Open House on July 29th. Happy Hooves Petting Zoo will be here that day from 11:30-1:30.
The director updated Trustees on new developments in Evergreen. Patrons can now request DVDs from other libraries, text messaging can be set to notify users when items are due, and Evergreen is moving to a WebClient platform in the fall.
Shannon will be taking a webinar on June 6th for the 2018 budget planning process. On May 31st the library will be closed until 1:00 for a staff meeting. A donation of $300 for the Summer Reading Program was received from the Lynn Bear Memorial Fund.
The meeting room policy was updated and presented for approval. Benzing made a motion to adopt, seconded by Rogers and passed. The 990 tax return was reviewed and signed by the President and the director. It is due May 15th.
The plant exchange was a success with 44 people participating. The Writer’s Group will meet monthly on the 4th Saturday. Amber Garcia and Shannon will be working with kids at 6th Grade Camp May 10th and 11th; Brett Ricketts will give library tours to 1st graders on May 16th. Barry Brown and Shannon are attending the Document Preservation Workshop sponsored by the Historical Society. We were notified that we will be receiving 1000 pairs of glasses for viewing the solar eclipse in August.
Shannon will be taking leave June 7th and 8th and will be attending the Director’s Roundtable on June 3rd. Summer Reading starts June 5th. With no further business the meeting was adjourned at 4:05 pm.
The next meeting will be June 13th at 3:30 pm.
