June 2018 minutes
The regular monthly meeting of the Switzerland County Public Library Board of Trustees was held Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 3:30 pm in the meeting room of the library. Attending were Allan Bear, Denise Crawford, Sharon Deck, Debbie Margison, Mary Jane Rogers, Bruce Williams, Emily Fox, and Shannon Phipps.
Crawford made a motion to approve the minutes of the May 8th Executive Session and the May 8th public meeting with the correction being made to the Executive Session minutes to read “May 8th” instead of “May 9th”, seconded by Bear and passed unanimously. Phipps shared a card from Mary Johnson thanking everyone for the retirement party and gifts. Reports of library activity and technology activity were shared. The new fiber is currently being installed by ETC and the upgrade to 100 MB will take place in early July as scheduled. There was a plumbing issue in the women’s restroom that was repaired by Ripberger Plumbing. The book sale netted approximately $450. Bank reconciliation statements and the receipt listing were reviewed.
Bills and claims were presented. Deck made a motion to approve the claims, seconded by Bear and passed unanimously.
Time for Public Comments
There were none.
All of the building repairs have been completed by Teton Corporation. Jimmy Haynes is planning to begin the roof painting later this week.
Debbie Margison made a motion to hire Emily Fox as Library Director at an annual salary of $47,000. She will begin working full time on June 18th.
Phipps reported that the Ivy Tech College Cooperative wishes to continue with the Learning Center Contract for July 1, 2018-June 30, 2019 and will be sending the library $2500 for the services we provide to distance learning students.
Policies for Unattended Children and Fines were reviewed with no revisions recommended. Bear made a motion to accept the Internet and Computer Use Policy, seconded by Rogers and passed unanimously. There were no revisions to the policy from last year, but it was approved for the new erate fiscal year.
Lisa and Matt Frisby have volunteered to paint the outdoor furniture. The library will purchase the paint and they will be taking the furniture to their house for painting. So far, ninety children have signed up for the Summer Reading Program. The library will be closed July 4th for the holiday; Phipps is taking leave June 20th and July 6th-9th.
Crawford, Phipps, and Fox will be viewing a budget webinar on 6/19, Fox is taking Evergreen webinars on 6/21, and Phipps and Fox will attend the District 6 Directors’ Round Table in Brown Co. on 6/29. On June 28th we will be partnering with Economic Development and the Community Foundation to hold a “Technology Petting Zoo” at the TEC Building from 3 pm-7 pm.
With no further business, Williams moved to adjourn the meeting at 4:00 pm. Motion seconded by Deck and passed unanimously.
The next meeting will be July 10th at 3:30 pm.
