Board Meeting Minutes
January 8, 2019
The regular monthly meeting of the Switzerland County Public Library Board of Trustees was held Tuesday, January 8, 2018 at 3:40 pm in the meeting room of the library following the Annual Board of Finance meeting. Attending were Allan Bear, Sharon Deck, Debbie Margison, Mary Jane Rogers, Lee Jaye Lohide, Bruce Williams, and Emily Fox.
Rogers made a motion to approve the minutes of the December meeting, seconded by Bear and passed. Reports of library activity and technology activity were shared. Reports showed activity from December 12th through the end of the year and the beginning of 2019 until the present day. Fox reported she attended an education meeting at the TEC building that day and that Heather Peelman and Kyla Ramsey had attended a summer reading training at the Dillsboro Library in December.
Bills and claims were presented. Bear made a motion to approve the claims, seconded by Deck and passed.
Time for Public Comments
There were none.
Our 2019 Budget was certified by the Department of Local Government at the adopted levels.
The director presented a resolution to transfer $5000 from the Operating Fund to the Rainy Day Fund. Margison motioned to approve it, seconded by Williams and passed.
The Pest Control Policy was discussed. No changes were proposed due to extensive revisions during the last year.
Williams made a motion to elect the following slate of officers: Allan Bear, President, Sharon Deck, Vice President, Bruce Williams, Secretary and Denise Crawford, Treasurer. Deck seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Fox stated she had not started the Annual Report to the State Library or State Board of Accounts but would begin as soon as she completed all necessary work for the board meeting, payroll, and issuing W-2s.
Library Assistant Heather Peelman and Youth Services Programmer Kyla Ramsey applied for a grant from the Community Foundation of Switzerland County to help with Summer Reading costs. They are looking into securing other grant funding and are preparing to send letters to local businesses asking for support. Fox asked board members to let her know if they could think of any new businesses the library could contact. Debbie Margison said that the VFW would donate two bicycles.
The library is closed January 21st in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
Fox sent the board meeting schedule to all members before the meeting and highlighted changes to regular meeting times. Since Fox will be on vacation from April 5th-15th, the April meeting will be on the 4th instead of the 9th.
The next meeting will be February 12th at 3:30 pm.
With no further business, Williams moved to adjourn the meeting at 4:05. Motion passed unanimously.
