Board Meeting Minutes
December 11, 2018
The regular monthly meeting of the Switzerland County Public Library Board of Trustees was held Tuesday, December 11th at 3:30 pm in the meeting room of the library. Attending were Allan Bear, Sharon Deck, Debbie Margison, Bruce Williams, Mary Jane Rogers, and Emily Fox. Not attending were Denise Crawford and Lee Jaye Lohide.
Bear made a motion to approve the minutes of the November 8th meeting, seconded by Deck and passed unanimously. Reports of library activity and technology activity were shared. Fox shared that Heather Wolter was hired as janitor and Dylan Walter was hired as a page. She also stated that $335 were forgiven during the Food for Fines program that ran from October 15th to November 15th. Bank statements from November were presented.
Bills and claims were presented. Bear made a motion to approve the claims, seconded by Williams and passed unanimously.
Time for Public Comments
Fox shared the revised salary schedule, taking into account proposed changes from last month. Bear motioned to approve the new schedule, seconded by Rogers and passed unanimously.
Fox mentioned that someone from the city had been over to investigate the strong sewage smell that had been frequently present in the building and that a drain was discovered in the storage closet. Pouring water in it has helped for now, but if the problem comes back, the library may need to contact a professional. She also mentioned that she bought a space heater to help with drafty areas of the library.
Fox stated that she will be at the quarterly Patron Services Committee meeting at the Greenwood Public Library on December 18th and will be off the next day as well. She also stated that Heather Peelman and Kyla Ramsey will both be attending a Summer Reading training in Dillsboro on Friday, December 14th.
The Library will be closed on December 21st until 1 p.m. due to staff training. The library will be closed from December 23rd-26th in observance of the Christmas holiday and December 31st-January 2nd in observance of the New Year’s holiday.
Fox informed the board of what she learned at a meeting with the county auditor about the Belterra tax situation. Discussion was held.
Fox reminded the board that the Finance Committee will be meeting before the regular January board meeting.
Fox asked about how snow removal services have worked in the past and Bear explained.
Williams motioned to adjourn, seconded by Margison and passed unanimously.
The next meeting will be January 8th at 3:30 pm.
