December 2016 minutes
The regular monthly meeting of the Switzerland County Public Library was held Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at 3:30 pm in the meeting room of the library. Attending were Wanda Benzing, Denise Crawford, Diana Johnson, Mary Jane Rogers, Bruce Williams, and Shannon Phipps. Not attending were Allan Bear and Sharon Deck.
Crawford made a motion to accept the minutes of the November meeting, seconded by Johnson and passed. Reports of library activity and technology activity were shared. Two hundred and fifty-four food items were collected during “Food for Fines”. Unique Management Services collected $188.05 and had one placement. The bandwidth usage for the week of November 9th was reviewed to show a snapshot of how much is being used since the upgrade to 25 Mbps. All staff computers have been replaced and we are in the process of upgrading the computer and software used to scan from the microfilm reader. Bank reconciliation statements and the receipt listing were reviewed.
Bills and claims were presented. Crawford made a motion to approve the claims, seconded by Rogers and passed.
Time for Public Comments
There were none.
The plan to replace the fluorescent bulbs with LED tubes from Smartwatt, the Duke Energy contractor was reviewed. The cost after the Duke Small Business Energy Saver Contribution would be $6340.34. After comparison of this proposal and the proposal from Light Tech, Johnson made a motion to proceed with the Smartwatt/Duke proposal, seconded by Benzing and passed. The project will be paid for with Casino Riverboat Funds currently on hand.
The Classification and Schedule of Salaries for 2017 was presented for approval. There were no changes from 2016. Crawford made a motion to adopt the schedule, seconded by Benzing and passed. The meeting schedule for 2017 was reviewed.
New officers will be elected for 2017 at the January meeting. Allan Bear has agreed to serve as President, Bruce Williams as Secretary, and Diana Johnson as Treasurer. Sharon Deck will be asked to serve as Vice President.
Board members were encouraged to view the display of the covered wagon and miniature furniture donated by Robert Johnson, nephew of former librarian Amy Johnson. Shannon would like to try to find out who made the pieces.
Holiday closings and special hours were reviewed. With no further business, Williams made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 4:10, seconded by Benzing and passed. The next meeting will be January 10th at 3:30 pm. The Finance Committee will meet at 3:25 pm.
