Time for Public Comment
There were none.
Members of the Board commented on how well the Anniversary celebration went and that they have been receiving positive feedback in the community. Phipps reported that $1925 was spent on the celebration which was just under the budget of $2000. Approximately 150 people attended.
Phipps shared information from the Department of Local Government Finance for the 2018 budget regarding the maximum levy and the property tax cap impact. She will meet with the representative from the DLGF on August 21st to finalize the advertised budget.
Phipps discussed employees that went above and beyond their job descriptions to help make the anniversary celebration a success. Benzing made a motion to purchase gift cards for Shawnna Ramsey and Mary Johnson for $100 and $50 respectively using Gift Fund monies and to award Brett Ricketts 8 hours of vacation time. Crawford seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
Phipps reminded Board members that several of their positions will be up for reappointment near the end of 2017 or beginning of 2018 and that they will be asked to apply for the positions if they wish to remain on the Board. Diana Johnson will not be reapplying as she plans to move from the area.
Phipps discussed some recent staffing issues on a couple of Saturdays when staff had called in sick and she was not sure if she could get someone to come in. She had recently worked 2 Saturdays for sick staff but wanted the Board to know that if she was not available to come in, there may be times when the library might have to close for a few hours until coverage was obtained. The use of a substitute was discussed and could be implemented if we find someone willing to work Saturdays and evenings with little notice.
Courtney Allison of the Indiana State Library will be making a visit on August 17th and Wendy Paige of Evergreen Indiana will be here August 25th. Phipps will be on leave August 11th and 15th. The Eclipse Party is August 21st at 1:00.
The next meeting will be September 12th at 3:30 pm and will be the public hearing for the 2018 budget.
With no further business, Williams moved to adjourn the meeting at 4:15. Motion seconded by Rogers and passed.
