Board Meeting Minutes
April 12, 2016
The regular monthly meeting of the Switzerland County Public Library was held Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 3:30 pm in the meeting room of the library. Attending were Wanda Benzing, Denise Crawford, Mary Jane Rogers, Bruce Williams, and Shannon Phipps. Not present were Allan Bear, Sharon Deck, and Diana Johnson.
Williams made a motion to accept the minutes of the March meeting, seconded by Benzing and passed. Reports of library activity and technology activity were shared. Computer use was up again over February. The meeting room has been very busy with people meeting to discuss the proposed poultry operations in the county. Bank reconciliation statements and the receipt listing were reviewed.
Bills and claims were presented. Crawford made a motion to approve the claims, seconded by Benzing and passed.
Time for Public Comments
There were none.
The estimates from Tyco Simplex Grinnell, FAST, and ADT for security camera systems were reviewed. FAST submitted the lowest estimate which was $2095 for equipment and installation. Benzing made a motion to approve going with FAST, seconded by Crawford and passed.
Your Automatic Door Co. came and did a final measurement for the door and it should be installed in 4-6 weeks.
The director had prepared a document giving answers to the points that were discussed in the review of IN Public Trust at the March meeting. Some discussion was held on outreach to the Patriot area including donating books, having a time to sign people up for library cards at the Town Hall and holding some programs there in the future.
Beginning June 15th, credit reporting laws will change and library debt will no longer be able to show up on a credit report. It was decided to see if this has any effect on Unique Management Service’s ability to collect fines and materials.
The library will close on April 22nd so that staff can attend District 6 Conference. Jaime Beach is promoting the library at Kindergarten registration, at Leadership Day at the high school, and at the YMCA on April 30th. Phipps encouraged everyone to support the Historical Society by coming to the Peak Sisters play at the Hoosier Theater on April 15th, 16th, and 17th. She and Sundra Whitham are in the play, along with several other familiar faces.
With no further business, Williams made a motion to adjourn at 4:20 pm, seconded by Benzing and passed. The next meeting will be May 10, 2016 at 3:30 pm at the library.
